Are you a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) interested in working toward a second license as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC)? Ocean County College offers classes during the day, evening, and weekends leading to either a certificate in addiction counseling or an associate degree. Choose the day and time that best fits your schedule!
Through Ocean County College’s new Weekend College you can take “Addictions Counseling II” this fall semester on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. This course emphasizes standards for insuring thorough documentation; ethical aspects; the counselor’s personal and professional growth; counselor/client expectations; objectives, rules, and obligations; and using evidence-based best practices to determine a course of treatment. Applications are being accepted. Registration is taking place now.
Ocean County College’s Addictions Counseling Certificate and A.S. degree in Public Service are accredited by the National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission (NASAC). Jeffrey Lang, MS, LCADC, Program Chair of OCC’s Addiction Counseling Studies, explained that “OCC is the only New Jersey community college currently in receipt of this national accreditation.”
According to Lang, this program is ideal for both students taking the first steps toward becoming a drug and alcohol counselor and for professionals seeking a second licensure in addiction counseling. The full state mandated curriculum for Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor / Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC/LCADC) education can be completed at Ocean County College.
Employment opportunities include case manager, drug and alcohol counselor, group facilitator, human services worker, outreach worker, residential counselor, and public health education, among others.
