“AWESOME AUTUMN” – REGISTER TODAY!

If you are 55 years of age or older, you can spend time on the beautiful Ocean County College (OCC) campus, make new friends, enjoy delicious meals, and learn about music, Japanese art, history, the power of laughter, plus, write the story of your life!  Continuing and Professional Education will offer a two-day mini-vacation Awesome Autumn – Active Adult Autumn Session from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, and Wednesday, September 28, Gateway Fifth Floor, (Building #101), on the OCC Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ.  Seating is Limited.  Registration Required.

Day 1: Tuesday, September 27

9:00 a.m., CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST & CONVERSATION

10:00 a.m., MORNING SESSION: “The Elements & Principles of Design” – Journey through quality design concepts by looking at images, discussing elements and principles of design, and how these were codified during WWI and WWII by idealist communities such as the Bauhaus, DeStijl, and Black Mountain College.  Participants will create abstract designs and challenge each other to read these visual communications.

12:00 noon, LUNCH.

1:00 p.m., AFTERNOON SESSION: “Anxious Autumns: The Cuban Missile Crisis: New Findings & the 1934 Morro Castle Fire” – The 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis stands out as a Cold War moment when time stood still.  In the half-century since those October days, research has produced new revelations and theories.  During 1934, vacationers returning from a Caribbean cruise found themselves caught up in one of the most terrifying events in the history of the Jersey Shore – the fire that destroyed the “Morro Castle” and took 134 lives.

Day 2: Wednesday, September 28

9:00 a.m., CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST & CONVERSATION

10:00 A.M., MORNING SESSION: “Falling In Love with Jazz” – Jazz is America’s original art form, yet many Americans never learned how to listen to, follow, understand, and enjoy this precious music.  Learn the skills to listen to jazz in a new way!

12:00 noon, LUNCH.

1:00 p.m., AFTERNOON SESSION: “Change of Season – Harvesting our Gifts & Talents” – Allow yourself to raise your awareness by using tools to help you assist in moving freely through the changing seasons.  Tips will assist you in harvesting your inner gifts and talents to make the best of every day and deal with the stress that often comes along with change.

All-Inclusive Price: $99 (Morning/Afternoon Sessions, Continental Breakfast, and Lunch).
