20th Annual Barnegat Bay Environmental Educators Roundtable at the Lighthouse Center for Natural Resource Education in Waretown, New Jersey.
This much anticipated and regionally significant educators’ workshop is scheduled for April 19, 2017 from 3 PM until 7:45 PM. This year’s theme is “Re-Discovering Barnegat Bay” with workshop topics that reflect the important and diverse natural resources that sustain a healthy Barnegat Bay Watershed. Registration is open to adults interested in “re-discovering” Ocean County’s unique wetlands, woodlands, native flora and fauna, and historic people and places; facilitators represent diverse environmental organizations and agencies.
The Ocean County Soil Conservation District invites you to our 20th Annual Barnegat Bay Environmental Educators Roundtable. Come see what all the excitement is about as area educators and community members explore the important role our watershed plays in connection to the health of our community. Both educators and nature enthusiasts from all over the county can engage in interactive workshops designed to inspire a new appreciation of our waterways, native woodlands, plants, animals, local history, and the watershed. Participants will engage in hands-on activities and field experiences to learn how to collect data, identify plants, cast a seine net, sample a creek for macroinvertebrates, determine how wildlife meet their basic needs, investigate the effects of climate change on our watershed and its impacts on our future, and explore local history of people and places in our watershed. Over one hundred educators and nature enthusiasts are expected to participate in this 20th Annual Barnegat Bay Environmental Educators Roundtable to learn, network and bring resources back to their classrooms, students and community. The Roundtable Steering Committee strives to help our local educators and community members to “think globally and act locally.” We believe that an appreciation and understanding of the local environment helps lead to a sense of place and connection for area students and residents. Roundtable highlights include a light dinner, a FREE resource table, door prizes and a special Keynote presentation. The Steering Committee has put together a variety of programs that offer something for everyone.
