FALL PROGRAMS FOR AUTISTIC CHILDREN AND DISABLED ADULTS AT OCC

Continuing & Professional Education at Ocean County College is offering two different programs for children and adults with special needs. Classes are held on Ocean County College’s Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ (unless specified).

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN

Sensitivity Super Powers is an enrichment program for high-functioning Autistic children created to align sensory sensitive kids with their “super powers” and become the hero of their own story. This program focuses on each child’s unique abilities and fosters empowerment, confidence, and compassion. Children will be exposed to art, music, yoga, and animal, laughter, and play therapy. Possible trips include Charlot Riders Horse Farm, Insectropolis, Jakes Branch Park, Toms River Library, and Novins Planetarium. A calendar of all events and trips will be provided during Parent Orientations.  Classes will be held on Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon from September 23 to October 28 OR from November 4 to December 16Cost: $225 per session.

In addition, Parent Orientations will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 11:30 a.m. or Wednesday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m.  Adaptive parenting classes offered on campus while children are in session will be available. To register or for more information contact Kerry Holzschuh, Camp and Youth Coordinator, at 732-255-0400, ext. 2072.

PROGRAM FOR ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

NEW! – Developing Abilities for Disabled Adults offers enrichment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Different topics will be offered each semester. Adult students will be provided with social skills opportunities including role-playing activities and mini-lessons, which will directly address conflicts and issues that arise in or outside of class. Adult students will be encouraged to share their concerns as well as successes. Each class will teach a lesson pertaining to the course topic including group activities and class discussions. Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, October 3 to November 14 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Cost: $175. To register, call Continuing & Professional Education at 732-255-0409.
